Known and respected for professional quality service with nearly 30 years of experience, we are happy to work with you to make your tattoo ideas come to life: Whether it's minimal or maximal, you will be pleased!
Call Sacred at: 212-226-4286 or stop by and visit the studio to speak with a knowledgeable staff member.
Tattooing itself usually requires an appointment after consultation. If you are looking for an immediate or spontaneous tattoo, please call the studio to see who is available.
Tattoo prices are usually quoted by the hour and small works by the piece. Prices vary by the individual artist who determines the price. It is impossible to give a ball park other than to say most tattoos start at $150.
Currently there are seven artists who call Sacred home and 4 or more visiting artists at any given time.
As you can see in the photos, a complete range of possibilities exists from micro nano-size tattoos to full body, and from traditional Americana to Mexican 3-dimensional stone to avant-garde expressionism.
Piercing and jewelry services require an appointment, which can be booked through Nine Moons Piercing’s website.
Though not forbidden, children should be supervised at all times while in the shop because children being children can break an artist's concentration, and disturb or inhibit guests' experiences. We ask that you use your best judgement when bringing children along.
TATTOOING AND PIERCING are safe practices, and we are licensed by the Department of Consumer Affairs. Even the tattooing that was going on underground during the prohibition from 1961 to 1998 was considered safe so testified acting Commissioner of Health, Dr. Benjamin Mojica in 1997 before the New York City Council.
The founder of Sacred Tattoo worked extensively with the NYC Board of Health, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the City Council representing the 50 or 60 tattooist working at the time in the 5 boroughs, and hosted city wide meetings at 365 Canal Street to make sure tattooists' interests were being considered. A local law, bill #832, was passed in 1998 making tattooing transparent, safe, and legal. We are fortunate to have a Health Department that is evidence based and respectful of citizen rights.
Since being founded in 1990, some of the world's most famous artists have tattooed here from Anil Gupta to Zeke Owens and Kate Hellenbrand. From our underground modest 2nd floor room at 365 Canal Street in 1990, to our present-day airy loft at 424 Broadway, Sacred Tattoo is a sought after place to get your work. We are also a location of choice for TV networks such as MTV, National Geographic, and VH1, and can currently be seen on TLC as a set featuring Megan Massacre providing tattoo cover-ups on "America's Worst Tattoos."
No intimidation and no rockstar me-ism, we provide a cool, laid back and friendly atmosphere where all are welcome. We appreciate your visit and value your business.
